Non-profit building projects
In the past centuries we have created a system which aims for development which is a western concept. In many parts of the world this results in overpopulation, slums, poverty, hunger and a growing desire for an industrial lifestyle. This system regards old skills and knowledge such as earthen building and cooking on fires as less valuable than living in a concrete box.
In my eyes the opposite is true, maintaining our ancestor’s skills and crafts and building upon them is more valuable than ever. This idea brought me to different continents sharing what I knew about improved wood stoves and natural building with people from different cultures and life situations. Here are some of our experiences in these projects:
Rebuilding in Nepal 2015
In April 2015 a strong earthquake hit Nepal hard. We got the option to go there with a German NGO later in the year and help build Earth-bag homes. Earthbag homes are a type of durable earthen structures that have been proven to withstand the strongest of earthquakes. Research “CAL-Earth” to learn more about the origin.
